New Ronald McDonald Family Room opens in Saint Francis Medical Center!
RMHC is proud to have partnered with Saint Francis Medical Center to open Colorado's second Ronald McDonald Family Room.
In August 2008, Penrose-St. Francis Health Services opened their newest facility, St. Francis Medical Center. The hospital, located in northeast Colorado Springs, is a 168-bed facility and features a modern Birth Center, Level IIIA Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Unit, Emergency Department, Level IV Trauma Center, Imaging Services, Surgical Services and a Critical Care Unit. It is also the home base for the Flight For Life Colorado air ambulance helicopter service. Penrose-St. Francis Health Services generously donated space for RMHC to open the first Family Room in northeast Colorado Springs.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a place where families can seek refuge, rest, take showers, do laundry, eat, check their email, siblings can play in the playroom and the entire family can regain some energy without leaving the hospital. The Family Room in St. Francis Medical Center expects to serve more than 250 families each year, the majority of whom reside in Colorado Springs.
Open 365 days out of the year, 12 hours each day, (from 9:00 am - 9:00 pm), the room is conveniently located in the vicinity of the Pediatric Unit, with the NICU down the hall. If the need arises, family members can return to their child’s bedside in a matter of seconds. The room is staffed 100%by volunteers who ensure that families have a warm, welcoming environment that feels like home. This is the second Family Room located in Colorado Springs. Memorial Health System has the states first Ronald McDonald Family Room in their Memorial Hospital for Children (opened January 2008).
